Sump Pump Repair & Installation

If you live in a flood-prone area or have a basement that always seems to get damp after a storm, you’ve likely heard about sump pumps. If you haven’t, then continue reading to learn more about these nifty devices.

For those who are looking for a sump pump installation, call the professional plumbers at Mr. Rooter Plumbing to schedule a convenient appointment. We are also happy to arrange urgent assistance if you need your unit repaired.

What is a sump pump and how does it work?

A sump pump is essentially your home's first line of defense against flooding. It sits in a sump pit, or a small basin, built into the floor of your basement or crawlspace. This pit collects water that naturally flows toward the lowest point of your home.

Sump pumps have built-in sensors, usually in the form of a float switch. When the water in the pit reaches a certain level, the sump pump automatically kicks into action to pump the water away from your home and into a designated drainage area. It’s really that simple!

Types of sump pumps

There are two main types of sump pumps: submersible and pedestal. A submersible sump pump sits inside the sump pit and is fully submerged in water when it runs. A pedestal pump, on the other hand, sits above the pit and uses a hose or pipe to pump water out. Both types work effectively but submersible pumps tend to be quieter and less obtrusive.

Caring for and maintaining your sump pump

Like any other essential home system, your sump pump needs regular care and maintenance to make sure it works when you need it most. Here are some of our suggestions:

What Our Customers Say About Us

Jovanny, Kyle, and Corin were fantastic! I have had many plumbers our over the last 10 years who have all told me that I had various problems, but their solutions never made sense. These great folks came out very fast, showed me what was wrong, fixed it quickly, charged a great price, and cleaned up everything afterwards. The plumbing is singing! I would highly recommend Mr Rooter for any service you need. It’s like when you find the honest mechanic - use them and recommend them to everybody!

I am a senior citizen that was searching for a honest and affordable company to help me with a emergency plumbing situation. All drains clogged because of damaged pipe under the house. I called a few companies but chose Mr. Rooter because of the customer service I received. All personnel at the company that I ended up dealing with treated me well and wanted to help me out. It ended up being a major job in which Fernando and Richard spent many hours under my house until they got the job done. Both Fernando and Richard went beyond great service. As you can imagine I was very stressed out with this emergency situation. Both Fernando and Richard stayed late in the day to finish as well as came back the next day to make sure everything was still working properly. They treated me like family. By the end of the day I had relationships from management to labor before the job was done. I would highly recommend this company because of the great service they provided as well as the work which ended up putting everything back on track. Thanks Fernando and Richard you’re the best !!!!!

Wesley, Manager, Frank and Marcos worked as a team, were very cordial, respectful and considerate, explained every step plus cost of what needed to be done. They answered all our questions and kept us informed of the the process during the repair. They kept a tidy work area, used tarps. After they completed each project they cleaned and removed any and all debris/parts. Wesley, Frank, and Marcos thank you for having pride by your performance .... job well done! Would I refer Mr. ROOTER Yes I would...I am a Senior and I would recommend this trust worthy company. to all Seniors! Jessica, Receptionist, returned my desperate emergency call during a holiday within 30 minutes.

We had a water leak that was damaging our house as well as our neighbors home. Our home owners warranty did not cover leak detection and our neighbors plumber couldn’t find anything when he inspected both houses. We called Mr. Rooter of Riverside late evening and they were here within an hour! Carlos P. was the technician and was very friendly and professional. He quickly set up his gear and got to work. Within minutes he found the leak and also answered every single question I had about plumbing without hesitation. I would highly recommend Mr. Rooters plumbing to any friends or family. They were the only company willing to come without days ahead appointments. Thanks again Carlos P!

  • Test your sump pump at least once every few months by pouring a bucket of water into the sump pit. If the pump turns on and removes the water promptly, it’s working as it should. Otherwise, arrange a sump pump repair as soon as possible.
  • Periodically clean out the sump pit to ensure the pump can work efficiently. A clogged pump will have to work harder, reducing its lifespan.
  • Make sure the discharge line is free of obstructions like dirt, debris, or ice in the colder months.
  • Consider installing a battery backup system to ensure that your pump can still run even when the power goes out.

When to call a plumber

A faulty sump pump is like a fire extinguisher that doesn’t work. To avoid unpleasant surprises, keep an eye out for these warning signs that indicate it’s time to call a trusted plumber:

  • Unusual sounds like rattling, grinding, or whining
  • Sump pump turning on and off more than usual, even when there’s no rain
  • Visible rust or corrosion
  • The sump pump is over 10 years old

The plumbers at Mr. Rooter Plumbing are always ready to help. Whether you need an urgent repair or a sump pump replacement, our live representatives are on standby to take your call or message.
